The U.F.T.'s contract proposal passed. I don't think many were in doubt of the outcome. In an age when teachers are barely beginning to recover from the battering of the Bloomberg era, many were happy enough to believe Mulgrew's admonition that "the cupboard was bare," and walk away with something somewhat better than a crumb.
In my opinion, the contract left much to be desired. I could not support it alone for its creation of a second-tier due-process status for ATRs. It cuts at the heart of union solidarity. Anyone who thinks the contract is a near unadulterated success must live on a strict diet of e-mails from Mulgrew and letters from his Unity reps.
We will now see how the contract plays out. If you prefer musical accompaniment, join Fraulein Maria and me as we sing below!
Do-Re-Mi, Dedicated to Bloomberg's Former Department of Ed.
D.o.E., a "Board," a "Board" of Ed.
Ray, a teacher I once knew
Me, a name that is data
Far, where paychecks will not go!
So, half soda, super-sized
La, a note to follow sol
T., sounds nice with D. and A.
That will bring us back to D.o.E., oh, oh,oh.
