It seems many of the educational deformers these days believe that teaching is not so much an art as a science. In fact, many seem to feel that the heart of great teaching can be crystallized into raw numbers and artificially grown in a petri dish. Many seem to feel that with the right scripts available for purchase, any scab can be pulled off the street or out of any ivy-league school to master teaching in five-weeks time or less. With the "deprofessionalization" of teaching, these new workers can then be paid some of the most minimal salaries imaginable. They may even be replaced by cold-hearted cyber teachers who work for free.
