There is a wonderful song by Tom Chapin, "Not on the Test" (notonthetest.com). When I saw the following post at Diane Ravitch's blog, I was reminded that the problem is as severe as ever: dianeravitch.net/?s=teacher+blasts+los+angeles. They are cutting the self-same things that keep so many kids coming to and staying in school with smiles.
