Governor Cuomo assembled a panel to study the Common Core in N.Y. State. Although some panel members may recommend minor tweaking or delays in implementation, they seem overwhelmingly and whole-heartedly in favor of the Common Core. Perhaps Cuomo might have chosen a Constitutional lawyer as a panel member to address the problematic idea of a state's reserved power over education being coopted by national standards, seemingly accepted by states wholly in order to secure federal funding in what seems like bribery to the untrained eye. Personally, I'd opt for a plebiscite, but when you don't care for democracy, you might as well stack the panel! Could Cuomo have created a more perfect panel?
