The Data Man (Set to "The Candy Man," as sung by Sammy Davis, Jr).

Mr. Geoffrey Canada used data magic last Spring to point to 100% graduation rates in 2012 at his  Harlem Children's Zone.  This very well funded charter offers many important services to students, including free health care, dental checkups, class sizes under fifteen and two teachers in every room.  (http://dianeravitch.net/?s=GEOFFREY+canada+graduation+rate).

Yet, it does not offer perfect graduation rates.  It took a "Dataman" to concoct the 100% graduation rate.  In reality, the school graduated 62 sixth-graders down from its original enrollment of 97.  Apparently, Canada has kicked out entire classes upon two occasions because they were failing the meet the standards of the school and its corporate backers.

Alright everybody gather 'round.
The Data Man is here.
What kind of Data do you want,
Ginormous attrition rates,
Loaded A.P. Class rosters,
Top grades?
Anything you want,
You've come to the right man
'Cause I'm the Data Man.

Who can take a test score,
Sprinkle some voodoo,
Cover it with half-truths and a miracle or two?
The Data Man,
Oh, the Data Man can.
The Data Man can
'Cause he mixes it with lies
And makes the school look good.

Who can take report cards,
Wrap them in a bow,
Shape shift them spotless 'til off to college they all go?
The Data Man,
The Data Man can.
The Data Man can
'Cause he mixes it with lies
And makes the school look good.

The Data Man makes every fact he takes
Tantalizing and suspicious.
Now you talk about your charter school wishes.
You can earn merit pay riches.

Oh, who can take federal funds,
Dip it in a scheme,
Manipulate reality into a screwy dream?
The Data Man,
Oh, the Data Man can.
The Data Man can
'Cause he mixes it with lies
And makes the school look good.

Yes, the Data Man can
'Cause he mixes it with lies
And makes the school look good.
A-Data Man, a-Data Man, a-Data Man
A-Data Man, a-Data Man, a-Data Man
A-Data Man, a-Data Man, a-Data Man
